Caravaggio biography

This work is linked to Matthew 26:69

As Jesus had predicted, Peter denies knowing him three times. This is why Caravaggio has three fingers pointing at Peter: the maid with both hands, the soldier with one finger. Peter's gesture expresses innocence but his face tells that he realizes what he has done.

This is one of Caravaggio's last paintings.

Gerard Seghers biography

This work is linked to Matthew 26:69

"Aren't you...", the woman seems to say when she recognizes Peter as one of Jesus' followers. "Is he really!", say the two men to the right. There is panic in Peter's eyes as his hands gesture "Who, me? No way!" He thus denies his master.

Seghers painted in the style of Caravaggio. The faces, with their lively expressions, are only visible because of the light from the candle. The flame doesn't draw attention because Seghers put the woman's hand in front of it.
