A beam of starlight falls on Mary's head. Lippi made another Adoration of the Magi in 1496. He got the commission after Leonardo da Vinci left the city before completing his version. Lippi copied Leonardo's setting, which in turn was inspired by Botticelli's. The Holy Family is in the center, members of the De' Medici family are to the left and right. The three Magi kneel in the foreground. Lippi had already made an Adoration of the Magi fifteen years before this one.
