The Conversion of the Proconsul (총독의 개종)
(행 13:11) |
보라 이제 주의 손이 네 위에 있으니 네가 맹인이 되어 얼마 동안 해를 보지 못하리라 하니 즉시 안개와 어둠이 그를 덮어 인도할 사람을 두루 구하는지라

11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

The Conversion of the Proconsul
bodycolour on paper on canvas (340 × 450 cm) — 1515-1516
Victoria and Albert Museum, London
This work is linked to Acts 13:11
On his journey through Cyprus the apostle Paul arrives at the court of the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus. Paul tries to convert the proconsul, but is interrupted by a magician called Bar-Jesus. Paul strikes the man with temporary blindness. The proconsul, impressed, immediately converts to christendom.
The work is a design for a tapestry in the Sistine Chapel. It is also known as The Blinding of Elymas. Elymas is Bar-Jesus' Greek name.
